INFOFLASH N° 98 – An original exhibition: OOSTERBEEK, the « Dutch Barbizon »
Located near Arnhem, about 100 kilometers from Amsterdam, Oosterbeek is the first Dutch artists’ colony, a member of euroart and the Impressionisms Routes© network.
From 1841 onward, with the desire to leave behind the academic school and to consider nature as a true source of inspiration, painters found their inspiration in the varied, hilly landscapes of the Veluwezoom region, almost atypical for the Netherlands. This area attracted wealthy art-loving landowners from Amsterdam and Utrecht, as well as travelers heading down the Rhine toward Germany.
The exhibition presented by Impressionisms Routes© at the Hôtel Culturel L’esquisse in Barbizon brings together some forty artworks by the artists who have made the site famous: Johannes Warnardus Bilders and his son Gerard, Jacob Maris, Josef Israëls, Anton Mauve, Jacobus Pelgrom, and others.
Opened on 21 November, 2025, in the presence of Gérard Taponat, Mayor of Barbizon, Pierre Bedouelle, President of Impressionisms Routes© and Vice-President of euroart, and Francisca Van Vloten, President of the Scientific Committees of euroart and Impressionisms Routes©, the exhibition will run until March 2, 2026.
Open 7/7, 11am to 7pm, free admission.
