INFOFLASH N° 109 – The Claude Monet Studio in Zaandam (Netherlands) has joined the European Impressionisms Routes© network

That’s right! Claude Monet, whose centennial of his death we are commemorating in 2026, also practiced his art in many European countries: in Italy, Norway, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands, among others. More specifically, in Zaandam, very close to Amsterdam, during the summer of 1871.
Impressed by the canals, windmills, and picturesque colorful wooden houses, he wrote to his friend Camille Pissarro that the place “offered enough to paint for a lifetime”!

Monet produced 25 paintings and numerous sketches in Zaandam, which can be admired in many museums around the world (the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Musée d’Orsay and the Musée Marmottan in Paris, the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, etc.), with about a dozen of them held in private collections.
The Claude Monet Foundation and Studio in Zaandam have wisely made it their mission to highlight and promote the legacy of this fruitful stay by the master of light and color in the Zaan Valley. It features 25 reproductions of Monet’s works as well as a film dedicated to the artist’s time in Zaandam. It invites visitors to take guided walks through Zaandam.

Impressionisms Routes© is pleased to welcome the Claude Monet Studio in Zaandam to its European network. This addition nicely rounds out our presence in the Netherlands, which already includes the Domburg Museum and the many artists’ colonies affiliated with our partner, Euroart.
