The Eau & Lumière Association has been proposing a "turnkey" exhibition "Art et Lumière, paysages, loisirs et impressionnisme en Val de Seine" ("Art and light, landscapes, leisure and impressionism in Val de Seine") since 2012.
Designed for local and regional authorities, companies and associations (whether or not they are members of "EAU & LUMIÈRE"), it is intended to be integrated to their program of cultural and educational activities.
Striving for excellence, it consists of reproductions of very high quality impressionist paintings, accompanied by explanatory and didactic panels retracing the Impressionist adventure along the Seine valley and the Normandy coasts. The exhibition framework is based on Monique Lucenet’s book "Impressionnisme en Seine" (published by Les Itinéraires), which can also be considered as an excellent catalog…
Impressionism finds its roots in the colours, the lights and the landscapes of the Seine valley…
Several thousands of paintings are set near its shores and its immediate surroundings: the harbours, villages, bridges, boats, sailboats ; they magnify the changing effects of the water and the sky.
Life along the riverbanks and human activities have inspired the greatest painters:
Boudin, Caillebotte, Cassatt, Daubigny, Degas, Fréchon, Guillaumin, Jongkind, Lebourg, Lépine, Manet, Monet, Morisot, Pinchon, Pissarro, Renoir, Rouart, Seurat, Signac, Sisley, Van Gogh…
The exhibition intends to gather some of their most representative works going through the Val de Seine, from the foliage of the forest of Fontainebleau to the outmost reach of the sanctuary and the Normandy coasts.
It is a great opportunity to schedule a cultural event of general interest accessible to all, the didactic purpose of which will be appreciated by the teachers and their pupils, who will be able to extend the exercise to their school activities.
It is the occasion to raise the public awareness as to the wealthiness of the sites they pass by everyday and to their extraordinary worldwide renown. The initiative aims at opening up the museums around the world and offering the best to the public….
It intends to be of an irreproachable quality: the most recent depiction techniques have been chosen in order to render perfectly the impressionist colours.
The explanatory texts have been written by the Associate Professor and historian Monique Lucenet, author of several books on the Impressionists, and in particular "La Grande Jatte. Belle Isle en Seine" (2008), second edition in 2016, "La Seine Impressionniste. Itinéraire artistique et touristique" published in 2011, "Impressionnisme en Seine" (2014) et "Balades Impressionnistes en Bord de Seine" (2016). For more information, please refer to the bookshop.
To date, the "Art et Lumière, paysages, loisirs et impressionnisme en Val de Seine" ("Art and light, landscapes, leisure and impressionism in Val de Seine") exhibition has been shown 14 times in the Paris region and in Val de Creuse : in Crozant (Creuse) and Gargilesse (Indre), a specific extension "Val de Creuse" has been created on this occasion, then until the mediterranean in Marseille.
